Update from Haiti
Stan left for the earthquake-ravaged city of Port-au-Prince on Saturday, 10 April, to see first-hand how Compassion is at work in this devastated country. Follow Stan’s travels here as he comes face-to-face with poverty, is broken by its cruel grip, but it also encouraged and inspired by how God is at work amongst the rubble. This journal is thanks to the guys at Compassion who Stan is there with.
Day 1 – Arrival
“You see it on TV but don’t realise how real it is. The people are so desperate, they’ll do anything. We forget that people are still fighting to see another day. This is a nation that needs our help.”

First glimpse of the devastation among shanty homes in Port-au-Prince.

Hanging with some kids on the streets of Port-au-Prince.

Tent cities.

Singing amongst the rubble.

Day 2 – Meeting the locals
“These people have been through some traumatic events, but they just keep going and find the joy and the hope and the life in the worst of situations and that’s the most admirable thing about these people. It puts a lot into perspective.
“It’s an awesome privilege for me to be able to help and be a part of someone’s life. It ain’t me being the boss or the saviour, it’s just me doing a little bit to help.”

Meeting my first Compassion kids. The little cutie on my left is one of my sponsor kids.

Seeing more of the destruction firsthand.
Day 3 – Time for some fun
“It’s awesome to be able to play with these kids, it reminds me of what I was like as a kid. They are so free and happy.”

Learning some new dance moves with an older student at a Compassion centre.

Laughing together.

Having some fun with kids on the street as the sun sets for another day in Haiti.
Day 4 – Up close and personal
“Seeing a little boy with one leg get down on his knee and allow me to pray for him was one of the most humbling experiences of my life.”

Sometimes a single kid will grab your heart.

Worship. What an honour.

Making friends.

Hanging with the Compassion kids, they are so cool.

Amazing photos…Amazing children….
Amazing photos, and what beautiful people, how humbling, we take each day for granted at times and forget how lucky we are to have the homes we have the food we eat and the daily facilities and still we complain sometimes. To see this from a very real perspective has made me once a gain thankful for the gifts i have. Thankyou for that stan and the chance to see it through your eyes.
